Our story
Gender Care Clinic was founded by Dr Elizabeth McElrea in Napier in 2021, with a vision to make high-quality, compassionate gender-affirming care more accessible to people across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Gender Care Clinic was the first primary care-based gender-affirming care clinic in New Zealand, helping to establish a model of care that places patients at the centre, combining clinical expertise with understanding, respect and genuine care.
Since opening, we have grown into a trusted service supporting people throughout New Zealand. We are passionate about providing world-class, evidence-informed gender-affirming care that is safe, inclusive and grounded in the individual needs of every person we support.
We believe everyone deserves to feel heard, respected and supported in their healthcare journey. He tangata, he tangata, he tangata. People are at the heart of everything we do.
Our commitment is simple: to provide expert care, without judgement, in a welcoming and affirming environment, while continuing to contribute to the development of gender-affirming care in Aotearoa.
He waka eke noa. We are all in this together.
